Work In Excavations and Trenches CAN Be Done Safely

There is a commonly heard adage in the underground construction business: “It’s not a question of IF the trench walls will collapse. It’s simply a question of WHEN.” Soil, by its very nature, will give way to the forces of gravity, water, vibration, and other factors.

Everyone, including — but not limited to — owners, architects and engineers, construction managers, general contractors, employers, and employees, MUST know the risks involved, and take the necessary steps to provide a safe workplace and the required protective equipment. It is a sound business practice . . . and the law.

Safe work places mean higher productivity and reduced costs. The toll in human lives is too high a price to pay.
